Red Cross Flag Day in Boon Lay 11 Feb 2012 Sat

Today is a fine Saturday.
While having breakfast saw a bunch of children in school uniforms
approaching Boon Lay hawker center in groups.

I thought it must be a flag day or a community event.

They "clustered" togheter in unity, standing near the bus stop to collect
coins to be dropped in their tins.

Later while travelling down the east west mrt line, also saw a couple of
students holding to the red cross tins on their lap.

What a day.

Nowadays trying to get onto a bus is not as easy as before.

We have to 'squeeze' our bodies in order to get onto the bus entrance.

Very often, the skinny ones will get knock out while the "bigger" sized ones will win the battle.

The smarter way is to 'cut queue' by flanking to the front left of the bus entrance.

MRT almost delay on Sunday

It was almost a "disaster" for me on a Sunday morning at Jurong East MRT
station when an unpopular message was aired over the platform informing
the passengers that there might be a train delay due to a fault.

I'm gonna be late for my assignment at Yishun if the delay is
more than 15 mins.

Fortunately 5 mins later, a "salvation" message came just in time to inform us that train operation was resumed.

BUT the crowd has already formed on the usually unpacked north bound train to Yishun.
No choice but to find a spot to stand till someone alights at the next station.

This incident taught me to prepare for any contigency plans and plan early for any important assigment

While coming back from Lavender MRT after posting ads,
found a rear seat next to 1 of the monks enjoying YouTube on iPad.

The video was noisy and some of passengers turned back to
check out what's the commotion about.

Rabbits vs Cats

On 21 Dec' last year, four rabbits were abandoned
outside uncle Jimmy's Boon Lay home.

Being a cat lover, Jimmy did not know what to do
but to accept the 'gifts' offered to him.

HRS president rung him up and ask him to hold for
1 month as HRS' facilities insufficient at that point of time.

Sometime last week, the only female rabbit (white)
gave birth to 5 bunnies of which all died by yesterday.
They were buried by Jimmy.

He has been taking care of the 4 adult rabbits for more
than one month, counting from 22 Dec 2011.

He wonders how long more will kind souls adopt the 4 adult rabbits?

Great Dragon Fish Arowana Swiming With Tetras at Tiong Bahru Wu Hu

Recently was at Tiong Bahru Market to buy some good quality and cheap guppies.

While cycling past the market, saw this giant arowana swimming gracefully
with all his tiny neigbours fishes at Wu Hu Aquarium.

I thgt it was amazing as none of his tiny 'friends' end up in tis aro stomach!
How nice it wll be to have a community tank like this.

The Wu Hu Aquarium shop is situated next to Tiong Bahru market , across a small street, at a row of shophouse along Seng Poh Road.

A hot & sunny day @ a Garden in Sg isn't any normal Singaporeans would want to spend their time at.
No amount of sun-shade can protect your skin from tanning into dark brown.

Nevertheless the trip is worth going as the negative-ions there is superbly in abundance. Making a healthy lifestyle.

Morever, u can see 2 white swans having their meals and toddler feeding ducklings. And people picnic relax n there.

Where else can you find such a lobang in Singapore?

Bicycle Tyre Scratch by Mobile Grass Cutter

Yesterday picked up my bicycle with a punctured tyre.

Got it repaired at a bike shop opposite Marsiling MRT.

The boss told me the skin of the rear tyre had a "mini scratch",
so he didn't dare to pump in too much air in case the tyre 'burst'.

He explained to me that it is the work of the grass cutter when we park our bicyle too near to the metal railings. Just take note.

Initailly I thought it was the work of the wild cat who does its daily hand-scratching exercising on the rubber, now the cat is out of the bag! :D

Today when i sent in my bicycle for repair at Jurong West (ext) near NTU, I foresee another "price war" brewing between these 2 rivals... New Station vs Snip Avenue

I wonder what's getting with these two shops, always opening their shops "side by side".

The NEW STATION worker who was distributing flyers told me the Annual Member fees is S$16 in order to enjoy the S$1 hair cut.

I wonder how many times must i visit them to make it worth while?

Today is the 1st day of training with Ms Norin, 30 years of experience
in the service industry like SIA, general manager of a retail outlet.
And conducted training in service excellence for banking group,

She has been teaching for the past 3 years ever since WDA started this course.

Today 1st day the dress code of most of my classmates is not appropriate.
Tomorrow onwards must start wearing shirt, pants and shoes.

In the class we have retirees, working persons who wanted to upgarde themselves.
One of my classmate is an Enginner from China seem unhappy to attend this class as he is being "arrowed" to go for this training.

First day of training touched on changing our mindset and having a positive frame of mind. I reckon he already cannot pass since he is unable to fully accept the reality of life.

Cat feeder Mr Jimmy told me that one of the residents Ah Soon had his bicycle
cut by a banglah employed by the town council, i thought he was joking with me.

Later heard that Ah Soon made a police report and apparently classified as "Theft" Case.
To be confirmed.

Anther Cat Yan Yan in Jurong Sick

Tragedy struck one after another in this place within less than a week. After one cat died from felling down a branch, hong hong injured. Now it is Yan Yan's turn to fall sick.

While feeding her last night, Mr Jimy found that Yan Yan's lower body is full of sweat. She has no appetite to eat, only took a few sips of the water. Her eyes are always "closed" probably suffering...

Jimmy is probably bring her to the new vet Joyous Pet Centre at Jurong West Blk 541 this morning if she doesn't show signs of recovery.
That means his "pocket hole gonna be bigger" and fasting this month ;(

Treating an injured cat has never been an easy job for this elderly cat-lover Mr Jimmy in this small cat town of Singapore.

This cat named "Hong Hong" has quite a big puncture hole near her throat, Jimmy has to apply Petroleum Jelly to prevent maggots from laying eggs and infesting her wounds.

While treating her, Jimmy was almost scratched and bitten by Hong Hong.
She stubbornly resisted treament while I was next to him. Later Hong Hong cooperated with his treament when we went over to "her terrritory" on the other side of the road.

The 1st time we saw Hong Hong a few days ago , her injury was quite bloody.
Now so much better, her wound is drying up and she could skip, run, jump, eat.

Another cat was not so fortunate, she died after sending her to the vet a week ago. Suspected she died from internal injury after falling from a tree branch.

The hospital and vet bill went up to about S$500, which is partly sponsored by another cat lover Mdm Wong living in the same area. In total, Jimmy has to fork out about $150 from his own pocket.

I was doing volunteer work at Jurong East recently
saw this junk in front of this unit at Jurong East Blk 315.

The next door neighbour told me this householder is a 'depressed' widow who go around collect things and deposit all these treasures in front of her home and also at the vacant space next to his house.

He got headache, every time call Town Council also not much use except can get the Banglah to discard the junks next to his house.

He told me whenever this householder comes home, she has to climb over these stuffs before getting into her house.

But I still wondering how to knock on her door...can soemone advise me ???

Today was @ NUH visiting a friend who had an infection from Dialysis.

I wanted to answer an "Urgent Call" outside his ward as the nurses informed me that the gents inside the ward is only meant for patients.

Are These Eggs from Angel Fish

I woke up this morning to see a batch of eggs
sticking onto the walls of the corner filter.

But couldn't confirm if the parents are angelfish.
They don't seem to stay close to the eggs and protect them.

These young angel fish are bought togther at C328 at S$0.50
each a few months ago. Only left these 2 out of 4.
Now growing fast. Eat a lot.

Keeping tropical fish at home has always been a favorite past time for Singaporeans and Asians in general.
Reason being the maintenance costs for rearing pets like fish are much lower compared to other animals like dogs and cats.

However the costs of keeping fishes are increasing and more sophisticated nowadays.
In order to keep these fishy pets happy, lightnings and fish equipments of all types are emerging in the market.

Prices range from as low as S$5 to over S$900! Some branded chillers, filters and fish tanks/ ponds are known to cost up to a few K in dollars.

Hence, it is not surprising that those dealing in the tropical fish industry are concentrating their efforts on accessories for this pet sector alone. Every S$1 dollar you spend on fishes could amount to S$5 invested on fish equipments.

I have just explored a cheap means of keeping fishes, going back to the basics of keeping fishes. That is to place them in a natural setting by housing them in outdoor fish tanks. Fishes like Guppies, Mollies, Otto, Betta thrive well under such conditions as natural sunlight supply the needed oxygen (air supply), algae (food) and UV rays (medical sterilizer). Bigger and more oxygen demanding fishes like Goldfish are not recommended for such outdoor tanks unless its more than 4 ft with less than 6 pcs inside.

All the bettas and guppies "welcoming the new snails" the moment i introduce them into the tank (without puffers). Hope to cultivate and breed more baby snails before bring the green generals over.

These flyers are sent mostly on behalf of property agents.

To get around this problem, advertisers had cleverly printed the latest year calenders or useful information at the back of the flyers or namecards to entice home owners to retain the flyers.

All My Thumb Drive Files Become ShortCuts Here Is The Solution

Recently , my thumb drive was infected by some kind of irrating virus that caused all my folders to become shortcuts which cannot be open!

I thougth that was the end of my day as this thumbdrive contains all my years of hard work in web design , flyers and holiday pics....etc

Fortunately , i did a google and found the perfect soluton.

All my file in the thumbdrive are recovered. :)

See below Solution:

1. Click start>>run>>type in "cmd"

Note: start button is normally located on the lower left of your pc screen

2. type the location of your flash drive.. e.g. "d:", "e:", "f:", etc..

3. type "dir /ah"

*you will now see the files/folders with hidden attributes

4. type "attrib "name of file/folder" -r -a -s -h"

example: attrib "My Doc" -r -a -s -h

(case of file name not sensitive- doesn't matter if you type "my doc" or "My doC" or "mY dOc")

*if you're going to unhide files, you should type the whole name plus the extension (format).. example "attrib party.jpg -r -a -s -h"

**if you have folders with 6 characters and above, type the first 6 characters then "~1".. example for folder named "birthday"

"attrib birthd~1 -r -a -s -h"

5. you should repeatedly type dir /ah after unhiding some files/folders so you'll know if they're now working or not..

6. now check you flash drive.. it should be there

The yellow tiles are cracking at these two places between Boon Lay Blks 213 and 220,
opposite Jurong Junior College.

The problem seems to lie with vehicles turning that crushed the yellow tiles.

Without the yellow tiles, it could be a problem for visual-hadicapped people to navigate
and
to know that there is suppose to be a crossing traffic lights junction here.

The cracked yellow tiles may also pose a danger for cyclists or a hindrance to wheelchair users too.

I chanced upon some shops selling paper sacrifices, which are "suppose to appease" the dead loved ones

Student Girl occupies 2 seats on SBS Bus at IMM

I boarded a sbs 333 on 6 June 2011, around 8pm at IMM Jurong East.

Desperately trying to look for an empty seat for myself.

Finally spotted one potential seat near the exit of the bus.
A girl was sitting on it with her bag next to her,occupying 2 seats
i almost wanted to approach her and suggest "give up her bag" for me.

But I couldn't bring myself to ask this poor girl to give up one of her seats,
even though she occupied 2 seats for herself.

I couldn't believe the evening news when I came back from Johor yestrday
I was shocked to read about the flood in Orchard Road again?

Still stunned at the image i took a camera shot at NTU's Library Samsung LCD Tv.
I thought my eyes are seeing things, how could a country like Singapore be flooded like the image below???

I was jus recovering from shock i read abt the drowning of an Indonesian boy when a flash flood hits Singapore few days ago on 1 June 2011. (click HERE -teenage boy believe to drown along a stretch of the drain at the junction of Mandalay and Minbu Roads in the Balestier area.)

Looks like more of us have to take out not only swimming lessons but also life saving skills.
Its time for me to refresh my bronze medallion cert which I passed 5 years ago in NTU (see link).... hi sigh

At a press conference following the floods, national water agency PUB's chief executive Khoo Teng Chye said the flood was the result of intense rain over central Singapore.

Over a period of five hours between 6am to 11pm, Singapore saw 124mm of rain, including 65mm that fell within just 30 minutes.

The day's deluge, 77 per cent of the average monthly rainfall for June, was responsible for the floods, said Mr Khoo. Last year's June 16 Orchard Road floods were caused by 100mm of rain that fell over two hours. In that incident, clogged drains were also a contributing factor."

Smooth Morning Bus Ride From Woodlands To Johor During June School Holidays

Wow! I couldn't believe I managed to enter into Malaysia within 1 hour yesterday Sunday morning.

The previous Saturday was so jam-packed with bus coaches after the Tuas Checkpoint bridge that we spent almost 1.5 hours on the brightly colored CW3 Yellow Bus. i should have brougth along my Creative Zi00 Tablet to play angry birds. (i am angry man :D)

So myself, a long-time friend Mathavi & her daughter Shanti decided to try another route Woodlands Checkpoint.

On a rainy Sunday morning 7am (5 June 2011), we took a SBS 160 from Jurong East Interchange which took us only about 30mins to reach Woodlands Checkpoint!

As the saying goes, "early bird gets the worm", if we have been later by anther 4 mins our next Sbs bus will be 26 mins based on the Iris info i recieved on my mobile phone.

Btw, Iris is not my girlfriend, she is a IT system where you can sms to find out the next & subsequent bus arriving ;)

When we reach Woodlands, we do not see the usual heavy traffic lineup. So we thought that the smooth ride and short queue may be due to the fact that most travellers already went in Malaysia on previous day, Saturday.

But to my surprise, when we boarded the SBS Bus 160 to Malaysia after clearing from Woodlands Checkpoint, I still see a long line of vehicles moving slowly into Johor asthe bus we are in speeding by them.

So it is still a long ride n wait for most Singaporeans after all.

I saw all the cars stucked while on my way back from Bukit Indah this evening!

Better still ,if you can bring your iPad or a Tablet, I bet you can finish at least the entire
Angry Birds game in your vehicle. Estimated waiting time to clear the cusatom at least 2 to 4 hours!
